Hillsborough Twp. Volunteer Fire Company #2

The Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Department is one of more than 30 fire departments and corporations throughout the state and the only one in Somerset County that is helping to support the Aluminum Cans for Burned Children Program (ACBC), a recycling program which provides funding for the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation. The program began in 1986 and has raised over $1.6 million to date.

Money raised through ACBC is used to purchase items and services that are essential to the recovery of pediatric burn patients at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. These items, which are not covered by insurance, might include special protective clothing that helps skin heal or bicycles that help youngsters exercise injured arms and legs.

Funding provided by the ACBC program also enables the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation to provide community burn education programs in schools, such as its Fire Safety House, a mobile education program that travels the state teaching children and adults about fire safety and burn prevention in the home.

Residents who wish to help support the Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Department in its participation in the ACBC program are encouraged to drop off their used aluminum beverage cans directly into the can wagon at the fire house located at 375 Route 206 across from TD Bank in Hillsborough.

For 34 years, The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas, New Jersey’s only certified burn treatment facility, has been providing life-saving, life-restoring care to burn victims and their families throughout the state. The Burn Center has earned a well-deserved national reputation for outstanding care. Thousands of patients have been treated at The Burn Center using the most advanced techniques and technology.

Additionally, through the support of the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation, burn prevention and educational programs have been presented to schools, local businesses, corporations and communities across New Jersey reaching tens of thousands men, women and children.
